World's 95% ATMs will be affected with the death of Windows XP!!!!!!!!!!!

Microsoft is finally ending support for Windows XP on April 8th and that would leave 95% of the ATMs in the world open to security risks. In case you don’t know, Windows XP powers most of the ATMs and the software you interact with in ATMs run on top of Windows XP. According to the report, Microsoft has been warning the banks for years about this issue but the banks have failed to show any kind of action to get things upgraded.
According the The Verge, most of the ATMs run on Windows XP full version while some run on the Embedded version which is supported till 2016. Most of the ATMs running Windows XP currently will be upgraded to Windows 7 directly while some would need a hardware upgrade and some would have to be replaced altogether to run Windows 7. According to the report, by April only 15% of these Windows XP will be updated to Windows 7 while the rest will be running out-dated unsupported software. Some companies have opted for custom support from Microsoft until they can plan their move to Windows 7.
All is not bad with the death of Windows XP as you might have seen many ATMs running slow and being clunky and you might have even experienced issues too with the machine getting stuck. With Windows XP phasing out and Windows 7 with upgraded softwares coming on, we will get a much better experience at ATMs.

Sharp RW-16GB – the world’s first 15.6-inch tablet unveiled!!!!!!!!!!!!

The thing with smartphones and tablets is that the bigger they get, the more they etch towards becoming a wholly different device – the Sharp RW-16GB Windows 8.1 tablet is kind of in the same boat. One look and you will feel that its desktop without the keyboard. Such devices then, do not hold much utility for the common man, but only those with specialized skills such as artists and designers can actually make use of them.
Still, the smart devices industry is abuzz about large devices – while  Samsung has unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 at the CES, Apple seems to be working on its own 12-inch iPad. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite has just one rear facing 2 MP camera. The tablet runs on the Android v4.2 with a massive 3600 mAh battery. The device would be available in Wi-Fi only and 3G version. Sony might announce the Xperia Z2 ‘Sirius’ at MWC!!!!!!!!!!!

Sony has only just announced the Xperia Z1 Compact at CES 2014, but rather than a replacement to the Z1, it is a compact version of the device, with another new handset rumoured to be joining the company's line up as a successor.
The new device is expected to be the company's next flagship model, and has had a number of names associated with it including Sirius and the Sony Xperia Z2.
The Xperia Z2 name is really just an assumption, whereas the Sirius tag has been spotted on a number of occasions. Although, looking at the rumoured specs of the Sirius, we would predict it will be the next flagship, which we believe Sony will call the Xperia Z2 at launch.
We've rounded up the rumours and speculation to draw up a picture of what we might expect from Sony's next flagship Android handset. We will be updating this feature as more details surface, so keep checking back.

Sony Xperia Z2 release date

In the past Sony has released two flagship devices a year and we suspect 2014 will be no different. The Xperia Z1 was announced at IFA in September 2013 and rumours suggest its successor will be announced at Mobile World Congress in February 2014.
An MWC release hasn't been confirmed by Sony, but the company has used the event as a platform for big launches previously, as well as CES in January. As CES has come and gone - without a new flagship launch - we'd expect that MWC is in Sony's sights.

Sony Xperia Z2 display

The Sony Xperia Z2 is said to be coming with a 5.2-inch display, featuring a 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution, which would make it one of the sharpest displays on the smartphone market.
If the rumour is accurate, it would mean the next Sony flagship would be sporting a 2K display, offering a pixel density of 564ppi. You can expect plenty of talk of Triluminos and X-Reality Bravia technology come launch day.

Sony Xperia Z2 design

Given the praise Sony has received for the design of its Xperia range, we suspect the next flagship will follow a similar path to keep it in line with the Xperia Z family. It has been suggested the new device will be slimmer than its predecessor and come with the water-resistance feature, which we think is likely.
Hopefully Sony will also introduce a thinner bezel, similar to the approach taken by LG with the LG G2, as the Xperia Z1 was criticised for its large bezel.

Sony Xperia Z2 processor, battery and connectivity

The Sony Xperia Z2 has been rumoured to be coming with a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, which would be the same as the current Xperia Z1.
While the processor may not see a step up, AndroidSaS also reported the Sony Xperia Z1 will feature a 3700mAh battery, which would be an improvement on the previous device, although a battery this capacious will take up quite a bit of space.
As expected 4G LTE connectivity is also rumoured, but that is pretty much a given as it is a high-end device and its predecessor comes with it.

Sony Xperia Z2 camera

The camera on the Xperia Z1 was one of its most marketed features and the next flagship is rumoured to be coming with the same 20.7-megapixel offering.
If this is the case, we suspect the camera will see some improvements and perhaps some additional features added to it.
At the moment that's all the speculation and rumours surrounding the next flagship from Sony, but we would guess it isn't the last we will hear regarding the device so we will add to this feature as more information becomes available.

Facebook Might Launch Its Mobile News Reader This Month!!!!!!!!!!!!

After Google pulled the plug on Google Reader, many start-ups and established companies have rushed in to fill the space. While many are just standalone feed aggregators, Facebook is rumored to be building its own reader which could aggregate content and news from the web.
According to this post on Re/Code, the social network is putting the finishing touches on its news reader which is being built exclusively for mobile devices. This reader called Paper is supposedly going to be similar to the Flipboard experience. Flipboard is an online content aggregator which brings all your favorite content into a beautiful viewing experience on the phone. Facebook’s Paper is also going to have a similar aesthetic.
From what we can figure from the post, Paper will feature breaking news from prominent news groups and arrange them in a visually pleasing format akin to how newspapers carry the news. Users may also get to their add their own content streams, however this is not confirmed yet. Stories appearing on Paper will also have status updates from Facebook users for context.
Facebook has been working on this project for a couple of years. The project has also seen numerous delays but is expected to be finished soon. The rollout predicted to be later this month, in Facebook fashion, is expected to be limited. It might take many months for all users to get it and start using it. The Paper effort is being driven by the Facebook Newsfeed team and it remains to be seen how Facebook’s new reader could compare to other readers in terms of functionality and adoption.

PayPal Introducing Payment System for Outer Space!!!!!!!!

Yes, you read correctly.

Paypal, per Mercury News is working with the growing coalition of Silicon Valley businesses to move into the outer space realm. In a bold move, PayPal Galactic will be announced at the SETI Institute today, reports Business Insider.
Space tourism is picking up and PayPal wants to be the first in line for galactic currency. This of course may be a surprise to earthlings, but not so much for PayPal. Founder Elon Musk runs the space company Space Exploration Technologies Corporation, reports USA Today.
In a final frontier “Scotty, beam me up” path, it was James Doohan who was PayPal’s first official spokesperson in 1999. PayPal is working currently with additional vendors to determine how consumers will purchase items once in space, states Investor Place.
David Marcus, PayPal’s president quoted in their press release:

As space tourism programs are opening space travel to ‘the rest of us’ this drives questions about the commercialization of space. We are launching PayPal Galactic, in conjunction with leaders in the scientific community, to increase public awareness of the important questions that need to be addressed
Many celebrities have signed up for outer space trips, including superstar Justin Bieber. This can certainly signify the next companies to join the galactic jump of products and services.
The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) Institute is a non-profit organization that looks for evidence of life in the galaxy and is now joining the commerce market. The Institute creates the questions of life beyond the earthly environment.
On PayPal’s website the live video stream can be reviewed. The company establishes they have over 15 years experience in global online payments and are the right company for this initiative.
The questions remain plentiful in the next several weeks and possibly years to determine how transactions are processed.

Apple to relaunch iPhone 4 in India!!!!!!!!!!!

Apple is set to relaunch the 8GB version of the iPhone 4 in the Indian market after losing sales and market share in the middle segment to rival Samsung in the last quarter after pulling out the model as part of a global strategy.

The US company, pressing hard to raise its market share in India, will price the device at around Rs 15,000 through buyback and EMI schemes compared with its old retail price of Rs 26,500, Apple's four top trade partners in India said requesting anonymity due to confidentiality clauses. The model launched three years ago has been succeeded by the 4S, 5, 5c and 5s, the last of which starts at Rs 53,500.

Since Apple stopped production of the iPhone 4 last August-September, the company is likely to source unsold inventory of the model from around the globe for the Indian market. However, this could not be independently verified.

"While there is still a latent demand for the iPhone 4 due to its attractive price in India, the model has lost favour in matured markets and hence it may not make sense for Apple to start fresh production since it follows economies of scale," said a senior executive at a top electronic retail chain.

An email sent to the Apple spokesperson at regional headquarters in London did not elicit any response until press time on Monday.

The company's decision to stop selling the 8GB iPhone 4 in the last quarter to push its latest devices helped the company gain value share but meant ceding ground in unit sales, with the 5c not reaching expected numbers and the company having no presence in the sub- Rs 30,000 segment. "Apple's iPhone 4 8GB model used to rank amongst the top three selling models by unit sales and fight neck and neck with Samsung, but with its exit the company lost much ground," said a senior executive at a top electronic retail.

In his chain, which has more than a hundred stores, the iPhone 4 used to account for almost 15-20% of sales compared with Samsung's 50% in the Rs15,000- Rs 20,000 segment, he said. Now Samsung has more than 70% share.

Apple's market share in the Indian smartphone market peaked to more than 4% in October-December 2012 and January-March 2013 before dwindling to 1.4% in October 2013, according to CMR data. Samsung's share, in contrast, rose to 42% from 33% in the same period.

Another senior executive with a leading cellphone retail chain said Apple's two distributors, Redington and Ingram Micro, have sounded the trade out about a big relaunch of the iPhone4 8GB model as early as next week so that the company can take advantage of a Republic Day sales bump.

John Chen elevated as official CEO of BlackBerry!!!!!!!!!

While BlackBerry’s future is still hanging in uncertainty, considering the effort put in by the interim CEO John Chen, he has been made the official CEO of the company in a hope to see a turnaround in the fate of the company.
According to Adam Emery, a spokesman for BlackBerry, interim CEO John Chen has promised to stay with the company until the company is back on solid financial footing. As such the company has now made him the official CEO dropping the interim tag, which was conferred upon him after he took over the reins of the beleaguered company in November last year, when the company saw it fitting to replace Thorsten Heins due to the cancellation of acquisition.
Soon after John Chen took over BlackBerry, he shifted the focus of the company on its formerly core business of serving government and corporate users, particularly with software. He has also struck a deal to outsource the design and risk associated with some of its handset business. Quite a few senior executives were moved for better functioning of the company.

Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon chips will bring Lytro-style focus to smartphones!!!!!!!!!!!!

Qualcomm has done pretty well for itself. The company has kind of become the Samsung of processors. It has outdone everyone out there, whether it be NVIDIA, Mediatek or Intel. Its Snapdragon 800 chip has been used on the top of the line phones and has achieved amazing results. Well, Qualcomm is now aiming to take smartphone photography to new lengths with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chip.
The most interesting feature of the Snapdragon 805 is that it will refocus a photo even after it has been taken, something that has been claimed by Nokia in the past, but we are yet to see it become a reality. How this will happen with the Snapdragon 805 is it will put everything into sharp focus and then you can choose one point of the photo and everything else will move into soft focus. Also, what will happen with this chip is that your smartphone camera will capture multiple exposures in fast succession. The difference with the Snapdragon 805 chip is that it will endow the existing phone cameras with the ability to do so.
Other additional features include intelligent lighting and exposure correction. It will also correct Flash pics which look too washed out or unnatural.
2014 has sure begun on a good note with the CES. We are excitedly looking at the road ahead.

Mobile device shipment to rise by 7.6 percent in 2014; 2.5 billion units expected to be shipped

According to estimates from analyst firm Gartner, 2.5 billion mobile devices would be shipped in the year 2014, which indicates a 7.6 percent rise compared to 2013. Interestingly, the driving force for the sales would be developing countries like India and Indonesia and not the US or European markets. Low-cost Android smartphones would see a heavy demand as many people are expected to migrate from feature phones.
Apparently, the high-growth countries in the Asia-Pacific region are expected to report shipments of 529 million mobile devices which means a 20 percent growth compared to 2013. However Gartner warns that manufacturers can’t rely solely on Android’s market dominance to turn a profit, but would need to work on features and experiences which differentiate their products from the competition and attract customers. As such the local manufacturers stand a better chance due to their disruptive business ideas and better understanding of their customers.
Speaking about the estimates, Ranjit Atwal, research director of global forecasting at Gartner, said, “There are 200 million middle-class customers in India alone. Users want to look beyond Apple and Samsung. Over the next two years they will be open to trying something different.”

MediaTek announces world’s first multimode wireless charging solution

While MediaTek created waves towards the end of 2013 after introducing the so called true octa core processor, the company has announced a new wireless charging technology at the ongoing CES 2014.
MediaTek, one of the leading chip manufacturer, has announced that it has developed the world’s first multimode receiver technology for inductive and resonant wireless charging. Such resonant charging is said to be comparatively more beneficial than the regular inductive charging. More importantly, the device can be placed anywhere around the charging dock and not necessarily at a precise spot.
The new MediaTek multimode wireless charging solution can truly be considered as wireless technology. Similarly, the technology can be used to simultaneously charge multiple devices of varying form factors and power consumption using the same charger coil. With the introduction of this technology, wireless charging for smartphones could soon become a standard and is expected to jump to 700 million shipments by 2018 as against the 20 million of 2013.

Nokia Lumia 1320 and Lumia 525 launched in India, to cost Rs 23,999 and Rs 10,399 respectively

Nokia had announced two phablets at the Nokia World event last year but only the elder and the more powerful sibling which is the Lumia 1520 made its way to India while theLumia 1320 was dubbed to be ‘coming soon’. Well wait no more as the Lumia 1320 has arrived in India along with a device that is sure to sell like hot cakes which is the Lumia 525.

The Lumia 1320 is here to compete with the plethora of Android phablets in the Indian market and the specs suggest it should compete quite well against the likes of the recently announced Galaxy Grand 2. The Lumia 1320 features a 6-inch 720p display. It comes with the Qualcomm’s 1.7 GHz Snapdragon 400 processor along with 1 GB of RAM. There’s 8 GB internal storage along with microSD expansion. A 5 MP camera with flash on the rear along with a VGA front facing camera. The Lumia 1320 comes with a quite beefy 3400 mAh battery. You can also check out our hands on of the Lumia 1320. The Lumia 1320 is priced at Rs. 23,999 which is the right pricing by Nokia.
Then there’s the Lumia 525, the successor to the insanely popular Lumia 520 which is the best selling Windows device ever. It is almost identical in terms of specs to the Lumia 520 but for the 1 GB RAM that Lumia 525 comes with. Apart from the RAM its the same 4 inch IPS LCD display of WVGA (800×480) resolution. It is powered by the same 1 GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 processor along with 1 GB of RAM and it has 8 GB of internal storage with microSD expansion. There’s the same 5 MP rear camera while there is still no front facing camera. It has the same 1430 mAh battery. The Nokia Lumia 525 is priced at Rs. 10,399 which is great considering i know people who were waiting for the device and hoping that its priced below Rs. 12,000. Both the devices come with the latest Windows Phone GDR3 update along with Nokia’s Lumia Black customizations.
These two devices are the ones which should make Windows Phone even more popular  (even though Lumia 1520 seems to be selling quite well in India)because the Lumia 1320 is the first budget priced Windows Phone phablet while the Lumia 525 is a great device and with the updated RAM, there will be no waiting for apps and games.
So anyone planning to buy a Lumia 1320 or the Lumia 525?
